Olfactory – C.D. Anders (The Unnecessary Blog)

The smell of the coffee

reminded me that

I needed a smoke,

something to take the edge off

the rounds I’d made,

while the smell of stale

cigarette smoke

reminded me that

a drink would sure round off

any edges that were left,

and the smell of dry tobacco

brought back the smell

of diesel engine fumes

in the cold and early

the ambience

of people just as lost as me,

fighting sleep and losing

(or worse–winning)

all while

trying to get home

or someplace like it,

my olfactory senses

making no sense

as I put the coffee down

and let the breeze

carry it away

I am a Social Worker by day and an artist/writer by night. I use the written word in an attempt to make sense of the secret worlds and dysfunctional dynamics that lurk beneath the facades of our daily interactions. I am not sure how my writing styles are characterized, nor am I overly concerned about it. I am immensely enthusiastic about music and often connect better with songs than I do people. I also have an intense appreciation for quality wines and whiskies, frequently consuming them in excess. I like things that smell good and struggle to manage the symptoms of a life-long relationship with depression. So, why "grumpygorman"? Spend some time here and find out...
